Melomed Mitchells Plain had the official opening of the Melomed Renal Care Unit on 15th October 2009. The opening of the dialysis unit is the first of its kind on the Cape flats and will serve the previously disadvantage communities. The Premier of the Western Cape, Ms Helen Zille applauded the hospital for constructing the state-of-the-art facility.The new unit boasts seven dialysis machines and dedicated nursing staff. An accredited lecture was hosted by Dr C Arendse (nephrologist) and a buffet lunch was served to dignitaries, doctors and guests in attendance.
