Deputy Unit Manager - High Care

Requirements:
• Professional Nursing Qualification
• Diploma/Certificate in Critical Care General
• At least five years relevant experience in a leader/shift leader position in High Care
• Registration of SANC and proof of indemnity cover are pre-requisites
• A pleasant disposition 
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent leadership abilities
• Own transport would be advantageous
• Ability to work flexible shifts

Key outputs:
• Manage the staff requirements of the Unit
• Conduct orientation and train new staff
• Evaluate staff performance
• Manage nursing standards and in-service training
• Maintain a professional image and character
• Ensure quality and excellent patient care
• Enforce health and safety regulations
• Accurate record keeping and management of stock
• Policy implementation
• Adaptable and able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and independently
• Strong leadership 
• Detail orientated especially with stock management
• Liaison between, doctors, patients and personnel
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels

Unit Manager - Theatre

Requirements: 

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse 
• Post Basic Diploma in Operating Theatre Technique 
• 5 years Operational Experience in a Theatre Unit
• Scrub experience in Cardiothoracic Neurosurgery and or Ophthalmology will be advantageous
• Previous experience in a management position will be advantageous 
• Knowledge of the legislative and Occupational Health and Safety requirements 
• Valid Driver’s licence and ability to travel
• Afterhours availability – own transport 
• Work flextime 
• Excellent Leadership qualities and mentoring skills 
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and problem-solving skills 
• The skill to manage nursing standards and in-service training 
• Maintain a professional image and character 
• Build sound working relationships with multidisciplinary team 
• Accurate record keeping and the management of stock 
• Commitment to initiate and implement continuous improvement projects 
• Excellent MS Office computer skills, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. 
• Knowledge of the Kronos System 

Key Outputs: 

• Be operational as well as manage the administrative duties 
• Manage the Theatre Department
• Liaise and communicate with Surgeons
• Management of staff 
• Ensure adherence to policies and procedures at all times 
• Manage staff according to the Basic Conditions of Employment and the Disciplinary Code, staff-planning and Recruitment and Selection of staff 
• Manage the day to day problem solving.
• Stock and equipment management including ordering of stock and equipment
• Accurate billing of stock utilised
• Training and development of Theatre staff 
• After hours cover as per a roster 
• Conduct regular inspections 
• Maintain infection control strategies and procedures of the hospital 
• Maintain health and safety principles 
• Maintain and apply the required discipline 
• Evaluation, intervention and resolution of patient complaints and queries 
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports 
• Manage ad hoc projects as and when required

Want to apply at our affiliate company Melomed 24? Trained paramedics manage and operate the ambulance service offering basic life support, intermediate life support, advanced life support and advanced medical rescue.

The fleet currently consists of eight ambulances, one emergency response vehicle and one fully equipped rescue vehicle encompassing the latest extrication equipment for motor vehicle accidents cable of also assisting in mountain rescue and fire rescue.
