Ebrahim Bhorat | Founder and Chairman
The Executive Chairman and founder of Melomed. Mr E Bhorat is primarily responsible
with overseeing the operational functioning and strategic direction of the Group. Mr E Bhorat was
previously involved in numerous property developments and business ventures. He held various
positions including the founding of Melotronics (the biggest retail electronics venture in South
Africa). He currently also serves as a trustee of the Equal Opportunity Foundation.
Ismail Bhorat | Executive Director
The Chief Executive Officer of Melomed. Ismail holds a degree in Business Science with
honours in Finance from the University of Cape Town (UCT). He has extensive experience in
both hospital and financial management. He is also the Vice Chairperson of the National Health
Network (NHN).
Dr. Ziyaad Bhorat | Non Executive Director
Dr. Ziyaad Bhorat is Vice President at the Mozilla Foundation and the Founder of Melo Avenue Capital, a principal-led investment vehicle providing long-term capital to private companies. His expertise spans capital markets, emerging technology, and governance. He holds a doctorate in Political Science from UCLA, an MBA and MSc from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and a Bachelor of Business Science from UCT.
Ferhana Bhorat | Non Executive Director
Is a qualified medical doctor with extensive experience working in both SA and the UK. Ferhana
has previous experience in healthcare operations and is currently working as a Specialist
Anaesthetist. Ferhana is a non-executive board member.
Zochra Hendricks | Director
Has been a director of Melomed since its inception. She has extensive experience working in the
healthcare sector and has been instrumental in the success of the group in her capacity as an
Executive Director of Melomed.
Sajid Darsot | Non Executive Director
Is a practising attorney and Partner of corporate law firm Edwan Nathan Sonnenbergs (ENS).
He advises primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity and BEE related
transactions. He also advises clients on matters relating to the fuels and energy sector, as well as
the automotive industry. His experience involves listed and unlisted companies. Mohamed is a
non-executive board member.
